NEWS
December 2011

2011 has been an exhilarating year as regards the achievement of the Tambay Boxers in the show ring and working arena.  The success of Tabor’s progeny has been simply phenomenal.

Winning the Breeder of the Year award for 2010 was a definite highlight.  The Ballyduff trophy, a beautiful silver tea set, has a place of honour in our house.

Puppies
20.01.2011 - Haylee (Ch. Timbavati’s Haylee BH) whelped her first litter with ease.  7 gorgeous puppies – 2 brindle males, one fawn male and 3 brindle girls and 1 fawn girl: Tambay’s Van Gogh, Tambay’s Valentino, Tambay’s Velasques and Tambay’s Vandoux, Tambay’s Valentia, Tambay’s Vixen and Tambay’s Vanity Flare.

After her litter Haylee was back in the show ring in May 2011 and duly won a 4 point major making her up as a champion.

During 2011 Haylee won Dam of the Show once.

27.01.2011 - Tosca (Ch. Ramona’s Great Expectations) whelped her third litter.  Six puppies were born very quickly and then nothing.  A scan at the vet’s rooms confirmed that there were still three puppies but for some unknown reason she was unable to produce them, so a c-section was performed.  Of the four remaining puppies we managed to revive only a little girl.  The c-section also explained Tosca’s difficulty in whelping the last four puppies:  a hydrocephalic puppy had blocked the birth canal!  After this ordeal she happily raised her four fawn boys and three fawn girls:  Tambay’s Wayfarer, Tambay’s Whistler, Tambay’s Wizard, Tambay’s Warwick, Tambay’s Wicca, Tambay’s Windchime and last but not least Tambay’s Willow-Bella.

The Tosca/Tabor progeny excelled during the 2011 show year and she received the Dam of the Show award 7 times out of 12 championship shows.

G.Ch. Tabor vom Okeler Forst AD BH BT – Simply the Best
On 12 March 2011 the special awards for the Top Dogs during 2010 were announced.  For the second consecutive year he was awarded the coveted Three Wing Shield, Woodcrest and Epol Trophies for top producing sire during 2010.

During 2011 Tabor won the Sire of the Show award 12 times out of 12 championship show – a clean sweep for this top producer.

Retired from the show ring at the end of August 2010 Tabor was only shown three times during 2011.  He was awarded Best in Show twice and was beaten only once for Best in Show by his son “Braeside’s Berneray”.   He now has a total of 34 Best in Show Certificates.

Ariodante’s Azan and Ariodante’s Aristo are now both champions.

Working Trial Successes

Congratulations to Tambay’s Simply Irrisistible and her proud owners for passing the endurance trial in July and therefore qualifying for the AD title.  In November she also passed her Traffic Steady Companion Dog test for which she earned the BH title.

Our Ch. Timbavati’s Haylee did us proud too when she passed her Companion Dog test and also now has the BH title.

Special Award Successes

Litter brother and sister, G.Ch. Tambay’s Out and About and Ch. Tambay’s Odessa shared the Keenager of the Year award with 4 wins each.  Congratulations to their proud owners.

Farewell
We were very sorry to hear of the tragic loss of Tambay’s Renoir, Magda Koekemoer’s beloved boy, who succumbed so quickly to spinal cancer.

On 2 August I received a call from our housekeeper, Anna, informing me that Kira appeared very stressed.  Rushing home from work I informed our veterinary surgery of the situation and was relieved to hear that a veterinarian was in-house to assist.  On arriving at home, Anna, told me that Kira had gone into hiding.  Frantically the two of us searched the garden calling her as we went along.  I was terribly upset when I found her under the palm trees beyond any further help.

Season’s Greetings

Both Franz and I would like to wish our friends and all Boxer lovers a peaceful festive season, happy holidays and a prosperous 2012.

Boxer Greetings
Ute

December 2010

This must have been one of the busiest years we have experienced for a very
long time.  Beginning in January I was very hard at work translating Karin
Rezewski’s book “Topics of my Life” from Germany into English.
This was a mammoth task but well worth seeing the finished digital
product which was on sale at the ATIBOX World Championship show in Poland
in May this year.

Puppies

15.08.09 Tosca (Ch. Ramona’s Great Expectations) whelped her second
litter with ease.  7 beautiful puppies in total, 3 fawn males and 4 fawn girls:
Tambay’s Utrillo, Tambay’s Ungaro, Tambay’s and Tambay’s Umi,
Tambay’s Umaya, Tambay’s Undine and Tambay’s.

The combination Tabor/Tosca is tremendous, confirmed by the success
of their progeny in the show ring.  We have repeated this mating and will
be expecting a litter hopefully at the end of January 2011.

Haylee (Timbavati’s Haylee) has also been mated to Tabor and this litter
should be born in the 3rd week of January 2011. This will be Haylee’s first litter.

We are extremely excited about both impending litters.

G.Ch. Tabor vom Okeler Forst AD BH BT – Boxer Extraordinaire

Tabor started 2010 with two Best in Shows at the very first double
championship show.  Thereafter there was no stopping him.

He was shown 7 times in 2010 and received the nod from 7 Judges for
Best in Show.

On 13 March 2010 he was acclaimed by All Breeds’ Judge, Mr David Lower
as Best Male and ultimately Winner of Winners.  That same evening his
achievement as Boxer of the year 2009 was confirmed and he also
received the coveted Three Wing Shield, Woodcrest and Epol Trophies
for top producing sire during 2009.

Tabor was sire of the show a phenomenal 11 times out of 12
championship shows.

Tabor was retired from the show ring at the end of August with an incredible 31
Best in Show awards.  Tabor can proudly claim that he is the first adult
Boxer ever in the history of the Federation of Boxer Clubs SA, who has not
been beaten in the show ring.  From the time he arrived in South Africa
he has only shown true wonderful Boxer temperament and all
achievements have been well deserved.

Tabor’s Progeny

Not to be outdone by their sire, his progeny is holding their own in the show
ring and working trials as well:

20.02.10: BCSA morning Championship Show
Best Puppy : Tambay’s Torri
4 Points Major Female and Best Opposite Sex on Show:  Caroweck’s
Pennyfeather of Scorpio

20.02.10: BCSA afternoon Championship Show
4 Points Major Male:  Ariodante’s Azan

13.03.10: Winner of Winners
A clean sweep for Tabor’s offspring:
Best Male Puppy:  Braeside’s Bigga
Best Female Puppy: Berry Head’s Annabelle of Togra
Best Female: Caroweck’s Pennyfeather of Scorpio

27.03.10: EBC morning Chamionship Show:

4 Points Major Male:  Ariodante’s Azan

10.04.10:  NBC Chamionship Show:
Best Puppy: Berry Head’s Annabelle
4 Point Major Male and Best Opposite Sex Winner: Ariodante’s Aristo

19.06.10:  FBCSA Endurance Trial:
Congratulations to Ariodante’s Azan for obtaining his AD title

14.08.10: EBC morning Chamionship Show:
Best Puppy:  Onica’s Eyota
Best Opposite Sex Puppy: Tambay’s Utrillo
4 Points Major Male:  Ariodante’s Aristo
2 Points Female: Berry Head’s Annabelle of Togra
1 Point Female: Caroweck’s Over the Moon

14.08.10: EBC afternoon Chamionship Show:
Best Puppy: Onica’s Eyota
2 Points Male:  Ariodante’s Aristo
2 Points Female:  Berry Head’s Annabelle of Togra

28.08.10: NBC Championship Show
4 Points Major Male:  Tambay’s Tatonka
1 Point Win Female:  Tambay’s Torri

At the end of the show the judge commented on the exceptional quality of this young male and was of the opinion that he would be a worthy successor to his sire, Tabor.  One cannot begin to understand our immense disappointment when his owner decided that “Maverick” had his moments of glory – 3 outings – two Best Puppies and one 4 point major and would be retired from the show ring.

18.0910: BCSA afternoon Chamionship Show:
Best Puppy: Onica’s Eyota
Best Opposite Sex Puppy:  Dona Deo’s Admiral of Onica
4 Points Major Female:  Berry Head’s Annabelle of Togra
1 Point Win Female:  Tambay’s Torri

09.10.10:  NBC Championship Show:
Best Puppy: Apollo’s Xerxes
Best Opposite Sex Puppy:  Tambay’s Umaya
4 Point Major Male: Ariodante’s Alcon
4 Point Major Female:  Tambay’s Torri

30.10.10: FBCSA Traffic-Steady Companion Dog:
Congratulations to Tambay’s Renoir for passing in grand style.
His hip score of A1 A1 is something more to smile about!

13.11.10: FBCSA Inter-Club Championship Show:
Best Puppy: Tambay’s Umaya
4 Point Major Male and Best OppositeSex on Show: Braeside’s Berneray

Congratulations to Machiel Bosch and his lovely new champion Berry Head’s Precious, who also completed her endurance trial in fine style during 2009.  Machiel could not stop smiling that day, especially when his favourite boy, G.Ch. Tambay’s Out and About took Best Opposite Sex Dog.

Congratulations also to Marilyn Coleman and the breeders, Paul and Carol Marneweck on their new champion, Caroweck’s Over the Top.

Timbavati’s Haylee

Our naughty imp from Canada has been very successful in the show ring too.

She won a Best Puppy and also a Best Opposite Sex Puppy early in the year.

In her first three championship shows as an adult she swept the board with three consecutive 4 point majors.

She is now temporarily retired from the show ring until after her litter and then hopefully she will pick up the last points she requires to attain her championship title.

Time to say farewell

We were devastated when out of the blue Ch. Heureka vom Okeler Forst had a stroke and passed away at just over 10 years of age.  She was in excellent condition and doing so well up to that moment.

The owners of Tambay’s Kaliph, Tambay’s Kaleido, Tambay’s Gemma and Tambay’s Gabriella also bid their Boxers goodbye during the latter half of 2010. I suppose we just have to accept the ongoing cycle of life but it is always sad to say goodbye to our special Boxers.

Season’s Greetings

Both Franz and I would like to take this opportunity to wish our friends and all
Boxer lovers a peaceful festive season and a prosperous 2011.

Boxer Greetings

Ute

December 2009

What a year it has been since our last update in April 2009, what with winning streaks, litters born, an import arriving and to top it all off an accident:

Puppies
30.05.09 - Lady (Ch. Tambay’s Liberté) with her last litter obliged by producing 3 lovely puppies, two fawn girls and one fawn boy by c-section: Tambay’s Simply Adorable, Tambay’s Simply Irristible and Tambay’s Simply Bravo.

Murphy was working hard this day and all this took place on the morning of Northern Boxer Club’s championship show. Naturally I could not exhibit Tabor. Franz had to rush through to the show grounds with catering supplies, while I was sitting at the vet’s surgery stimulating and drying puppies.

15.08.09 – Tosca (Ch. Ramona’s Great Expectations) whelped her first litter without any problems. 3 beautiful fawn males and one fawn girl: Tambay’s Temujin, Tambay’s Tatonka, Tambay’s Telemachus and Tambay’s Torri.

Franz attended as a very competent midwife, as she took us totally by surprise and whelped earlier than expected. Yours truly was taking Tabor through his paces at the EBC championship show. It’s strange how the pups always seem to arrive on a show day.

Tabor, the proud Dad, was totally smitten by his progeny.

More often than not he was found playing gently with them in the garden.

Then again he has always shown fabulous temperament since the day he climbed off the plane and went off to a fund raiser where the FBCSA had been invited to attend, acting as if this was all quite normal.
G.Ch. Tabor vom Okeler Forst AD BH BT – Boxer extraordinaire

Tabor’s winning streak continued in 2009.
15 August 2009 he took Best in Show twice at the EBC double bill championship shows in Sasolburg under noted specialist judges Mr Danie Jacobs and Mr Machiel Bosch. On 5 September at the NBC championship show in Pretoria he went Best in Show under breeder/judge Dr Marinda Oosthuizen.

Seven outings, seven Best in Show wins. An extraordinary achievement!

Tabor’s progeny

His progeny is doing him proud too:

15.08.09 EBC morning Chamionship Show:
Best Puppy : Ariodante’s Azan
4 Point Major Male: Caroweck’s Over The Top

15.08.09 EBC afternoon Chamionship Show:

Best Puppy: Tambay’s Simply Adorable
Best Opposite Sex Puppy: Berry Head’s Adamo
4 Point Major Male: Ariodante’s Azan

Congratulations to Machiel Bosch and his lovely new champion Berry Head’s Precious, who also completed her endurance trial in fine style during 2009. Machiel could not stop smiling that day, especially when his favourite boy, G.Ch. Tambay’s Out and About took Best Opposite Sex Dog.

Congratulations also to Marilyn Coleman and the breeders, Paul and Carol Marneweck on their new champion, Caroweck’s Over the Top.

We also congratulate Jacques le Roux and his Amy (Tambay’s Simply Adorable) for winning Best Puppy on their very first outing in the show ring.

Accident
On 7 September while cleaning the pool I fractured the fibula in my right leg and the tibia and fibula at the base of my ankle parted company. Six weeks after the operation, the plaster cast was removed. In the 7th week the pin fixing the tibia and fibula was removed, however, the plate fixing the fibula remains a souvenir. Being renowned for not doing half jobs on top of all this, our “T” litter, was three weeks old at the time and to really top things off, 4 month old Haylee joined our family of Boxers. Without the care, help and assistance of my husband, our housekeeper Anna, and the support of our many friends, to whom I am greatly indebted and thankful for, this period in my life would have been even more trying. I hope to be back in the ring in 2010.
Timbavati’s Haylee
We are extremely excited about our new import from Chris and Solina Richter, Canada. She is beautifully bred and hopefully will produce well to Tabor.

Haylee arrived on 11 September and settled in very quickly with the other Boxers. She loved spending time on the bed with me and snuck in whenever the opportunity arose. Thank goodness the injured leg was protected by plaster as, in her exuberance, she was up and about on the bed in a flash.

She has a very sweet nature but is also very outgoing. She loves working and enjoyed her puppy socialisation classes without worrying too much about “mother”. She enjoys tug of war and is a master craftsman - some of the remodelled furniture vouch for this. We look forward to introducing her into the show ring, so watch this space.
Season’s Greetings
As we approach the close of 2009 we take this opportunity to wish our friends and all Boxer lovers a peaceful festive season and a prosperous 2010.

Until next year
April 2009

2009 has started off on a high note:
  • G.Ch. Tabor vom Okeler Forst AD BH BT
  • Two Best in Shows under breed specialist judges Mesdames Sally Young and Ursula Wöstmann on 14 February.
  • Tabor takes the Hexastar Trophy for winning an incredible 9 Best in Shows in 2008.
  • Tabor is awarded the Sedohr Trophy for attaining his Grand Champion title in 2008.
  • Tabor takes both Best in Show awards on 14 March under breed specialist judges Mr Danie Jacobs in the morning and Mr Johan Greeff in the afternoon.
  • Ramona’s Great Expectations becomes a champion on 14 February, finishing with a 4 point major.
  • Puppies - The Lady has obliged. She was mated successfully to Tabor. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the scan booked for end April will confirm she is in whelp.
TAMBAY NEWS December 2008
2008 was a great year for Tambay Boxers beginning with the following awards from 2007 being confirmed at the FBCSA AGM in March this year

Runner-Up Breeders of the Year for 2007

G.Ch. Tambay’s Janosz: Winner of the Three Wings Sire of the Year Trophy

Ch. Tambay’s Kira: Winner of the Jochen Fleming Dam of the Year Trophy

Tabor vom Okeler Forst and Ramona’s Great Expectations:
Free State Sports Media Trophy for most Best Puppy wins (four wins each)

Tabor vom Okeler Forst winner of the Hexastar Trophy with 7 Best in Shows wins

For a relatively small but very active kennel we believe the achievements have been great and we can be very proud of our Boxers that we have bred, own and imported.

The fabulous start to 2008 was followed by a fantastic year in the show ring:

Tabor vom Okeler Forst - a dog in a class of his own was unbeaten in the show ring during 2008 with nine Best in Show wins. Many of the judges, including two international all breeds judges, remarked that he is a “dog in a class of his own”.

Tabor was awarded his Grand Champion status after titling in four straight majors and passing his endurance trial with flying colours.

Tabor’s progeny are also faring extremely well in the show ring and it is hoped that they will title in 2009 once they have reached maturity requirements.

Ramona’s Great Expectations (Tosca) also excelled in her own right winning two majors and a Best Opposite Sex in Show.

G.Ch. Tambay’s Janosz (Josh)
was unbeaten in the Veteran’s class during 2008. He officially retired from the show ring at Enid Rhodes Memorial Inter-Club Championship Show In November.

Icing on the Cake
The amazing success in the show ring continued when both Tabor and Tosca were awarded Best Male and Best Female by an international all breeds judge at the Winner of Winners in September. The judge was highly complimentary of Tabor’s qualities

Sad News
Unfortunately, there were also some sad moments in 2008:
  • In April, one week before his show ring debut, we learned that despite the valiant efforts by the veterinarians Tambay’s Quick Rambo died as a result of a snake bite.
  • On 24 June, at the age of 11,5 years, G.Ch. Tambay’s Dunja passed away quietly. Her great legacy lives on through her daughters and granddaughters at Tanyati Boxers.
Both are sorely missed.

Puppies
  • Ch. Tambay’s Liberté (Lady) - since her last season earlier this year Lady has not obliged since. The Lady will not be hurried and we therefore ask everyone on the waiting list for a puppy from her and Tabor for their patience.
  • Ramona’s Great Expectations - Tosca will be bred to Tabor at her next season, which we expect during the first quarter of 2009
