ABOUT OUR PUPPIES
We have always endeavoured to breed good quality Boxers of correct type, sound conformation and good working temperament. This has not always been an easy task considering that the Boxer gene pool in South Africa is relatively small and access to top stud dogs is limited. We have, from time to time, imported Boxers from Germany and have also crossed out to dogs of American, Dutch and English ancestry.
We were one of the first kennels to routinely have their breeding stock x-rayed for HD and have always bred strictly in accordance with the FBCSA’s breed requirements.
We have two whelping rooms that are accessible from inside the house enabling easy access to the dam and her puppies at all times. These rooms are well aerated and also temperature controlled.
The rooms have doors that lead to the back garden, which permits the puppies to be easily introduced to the outside world when they are four weeks old. At six weeks of age the puppies have access to all the adult dogs and are also allowed to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, which gives them a good introduction to the house. It is also at this time that the new owners of the puppies are invited to visit on a regular basis to give them an opportunity to bond with their puppies.
By the time the puppies are ready to leave for their new homes they have been dewormed, health checked by a veterinarian, inoculated and microchipped. They are well socialized, partly housetrained and immune to the many noises in and around the house, especially to the rasping, loud calls and whistling of the many Macaws, Cockatoos and African Greys housed in aviaries in the back garden.
